Competition call for entries closed
The Black Horses of film, animation, music videos and video games are at the heart of Ars Independent. Every year, four international competitions introduce new and debuting art. The call for entries to the competition ended on April 26; we will learn of the nominees on August 26.
From the submissions, the festival programmers will choose: 6 feature films, 7 video games, about 30 short animations and 30 music videos, which we will see between September 24 and 29 in Katowice. In all of the competitions, the main prize – the title and statue of the Black Horse and 500 euros – will be given out by the festival audience.
How many submissions? This time, it was more then 1200 animations and 1200 music videos. Once again, the film selection included around 250 films while the game one – 50 games.
“This year, the tagline gluing Ars Independent together is “Unsubscribe”. Unsubscribe is an experiment that sometimes doesn’t work out and sometimes isn’t that well-received. But it doesn’t have to – after all, an experiment is an experiment! Ars isn’t interested in weighted averages and does not aim for measured tastes. I mean, taste is subjective anyway. We are interested in elevating the no-likes and thumbs-who-cares. We are interested in films, animations, music videos or games that often get polarizing reception and this is what the competition will have plenty of,” adds Maciej Gryzełko, the festival’s music video curator.
It is worth mentioning that on May 7, the first out-of-competition events at Ars Independent 2019 will be announced. Pre-orders for festival passes will also begin on that day. The passes will be priced at 60 pln – available at Ticketportal and straight from arsindependent.pl.
The event is organized by the Katowice City of Gardens Cultural Institution and the City of Katowice.
