Competition Call for Entries is now closed
At the heart of Ars Independent are four international competitions of young, debuting and new art. Every year, we search for the Black Horses of film, animation, video games and music videos to meet them at the end of September in Katowice. The competition call for entries ended on May 31.
Like in previous years, we received hundreds of submissions from all over the world. We received about 1400 animations and 200 films. Our programmers will also play over 50 games and watch/listen to about 1000 music videos.
We will nominate a handful of titles from all these submissions. The Black Horse of Film will showcase 6 feature films from debuting directors. 7 new video games of all genres and platforms will compete for the Black Horse of Video Games. The Black Horse of Animation will feature around 30 animated short debuts and school films. Finally, the Black Horse of Music Videos will screen up to 30 videos.
The winners of every competition and their prizes – the title and statuette of the Black Horse and 500 EUR – will be chosen by the festival audience.
The nominated titles will be announced on September 11, two weeks before the festival, alongside a full event schedule of Ars Independent 2018. In June, however, we will learn of the first out of competition events, with another programme package coming in August.
“It’s going to be strange and colourful. Eyes wide and let’s hit play,” comments Matylda Badera, the festival manager and programme coordinator.
We would also like to remind you that up until August 31 we accept submissions to the Video Game Night Market, the open showcase of new, independent interactive works.
