Special guest: Béla Tarr!

Béla Tarr concerned to be a living classic, one of the most influential creators of the contemporary cinema, the author of the films which are in the world canon, will be a guest of the first edition of IFF Ars Independent Katowice

Tarr: Hungarian director, legend of the contemporary avant-garde, author of a famous over seven-hour “Satan’s Tango” (1994), ranked alongside the greatest – Michelangelo Antonioni or Aleksander Sokurow, will come to Katowice on 15th June to take part in the panel discussion dedicated to Jafar Panahi and film censorship in its broad sense.
The director will visit Katowice on 15th June together with Tobias Morgan, the founder of the Cine Foundation International – an organization condemning the imprisonment of Jafar Panahi and Mohammad Rasoulof. Both filmmakers are currently subject to “the legal proceedings in Iran as a result of which they have been sentenced to 6 years’ imprisonment and 20 years’ ban on creative work.”
The full retrospective of Jafar Panahi’s works will be screened during the first edition of IFF Ars Independent Katowice (14th – 19th June 2011).
