Evening falls. A stuffy flat will be the stage for events bordering on séance. In claustrophobic darkness, a family prepares for a party during which they’ll present sketches and songs, and the birthday girl will order them to fulfill her whims. Pixelated inserts from VHS diaries create a feeling of unrealness, a strong longing for something gone; perhaps for family members who left us? “So long, enthusiasm” is a film debut with disturbed chronology – a hypnotizing, formal masterpiece which breaks the mind and evokes Carlos Saura’s “Cría Cuervos”.
A Colombian director, anthropology and film studies graduate, born in 1977. He debuted with “Adiós entusiasmo” as part of the Forum section at 2017’s Berlinale. His short film “Soy tan feliz” competed for the Palme d’Or at Cannes 2011 and received the main prize at the Argentinian BAFICI in 2011.
