The animation by Lucie Prigent, Vincent Gallut and Damien Deschamps could easily function as a music video for any given piece from the hypnagogic pop or chillwave genres. Just like in those musical movements, the authors swim in nostalgia for times they have no way of remembering – in this case the ‘70s. Their knowledge comes from pop culture, hence their hypnotic vision of Venice Beach consists of never-ending summer on the beach, palm trees and slo-mo skateboard rides in a drained pool. However, all of this has an underlying layer of anxiety, which slowly engulfs the blissful daydreaming.

Lucie Prigent, Vincent Gallut and Damien Deschamps

Lucie is an animator. She studied art at Atelier Hourdé and Institut Saint-Geneviève, and animation at École Georges Méliès. Vincent is na animator, and he studied art at Atelier de Sèvres in Paris and animation at École Georges Méliès. Damien is also an animator and he studied art at Atelier de Sèvres in Paris and at Arts décoratifs in Strasbourg, and animation at the École Georges Méliès

Karol Kućmierz

Ars Independent’s editor. Culture expert and journalist, publishes in “Kultura Liberalna” and “Esensja”. In 2012 he won the 3rd prize in the Krzysztof Mętrak Competition and in 2014 received a distinction in the IV edition of the film and criticism competition “Powiększenie” organized by the Filmweb film portal.
