All the exhibitors at the Video Game Night Market revealed
The third edition of the Night Market, Katowice’s expo of the latest in video games, is a seemingly subdued, inconspicuous mix, but it actually does a good job of reflecting the spirit of the independent scene. From retro shooters, strategy or adventure games invoking the memories of the ‘80s and ‘90s, through new media UI experiments, to interactive socio-political commentaries.
The Night Market is an expo for indie games and interactive experiences, taking place as part of the multimedia festival Ars Independent (September 24-29). The event will celebrate its third edition on Friday, September 27. The expo will be open from 5pm til midnight.
Entry to the Night Market is free of charge!
This year we will see from 9 exhibitors, including:
Piotr Goj’s “High C” is, first and foremost, a unique control scheme: you play as a pawn, steered with a high enough sound! The higher we go (by singing, whistling or playing an instrument), the higher the pawn rises, avoiding enemies and collecting bonuses.
This time, not a game, but a concept track – the algorithmic, minimalist “Music for Sleeping,” also by Piotr Goj. It procedurally generated audio and video in real time, aiming to quiet down the listener and put them to sleep.
“Pigeon Breaking Point” is the work of WhizzKids – a group of children attending the LittleBitAcademy. In this 2D, pixel art platformer we play as a carrier pigeon, travelling through time and changing history (for example, finding ourselves in Europe ravaged by Black Death).
In “Księga Smogu” (The Book of Smog), another project from LBA, this time by the pro_coders team, a pixel art duck fights with smog and its sources.
When making their mobile arcade game “Australia Is a Lie!”, Pigmentum Game Studio were inspired by conspiracy theories. As an airport security team member, you have to stand – under time pressure – with either the Flat Earthers or the Rounders!
“METRO VR” by Epic VR’s Adam Łapczyński is a shooter in the vein of ‘90s FPS titles. Virtual reality transports us to an abandoned metro station, where dangerous robots lurk about.
Fantastic Humans will present the game “Fantastic Fetus,” inspired by the Black Protests in Poland. In this pregnancy sim, influenced by Tamagotchi, we will take care of a pregnant woman, attempting to create a super-powered fetus of our dreams.
“Zniw Adventure” is a violence-free point’n’click adventure game. Hand-drawn 2D graphics, stop motion animation, a strong focus on educational aspects and the grand adventure of the young, female dinosaur Zniw in the prehistoric region of Polisemia – Azure Mountain’s game in short.
Eremite Games will visit the festival with “Shattered Plane.” In this turn-based strategy for mobile phones, we play as one of the competing gods of the Slavic pantheon in several game modes: from a campaign to hot seat multiplayer.
Like every year, we will also be joined by the Museum of Computer and Information Technology – its premises will be available for visits during the evening.
Keywords Studios is a global service provider for video game producers, particularly in hiring. It currently operates with 48 studios in 20 countries on 4 continents. They have recently opened a new studio in Katowice and will join us on the Night Market.
It’s worth a reminder that the Night Market is part of Katowice’s Night of Galleries NOC-K.
The event is organized by the cultural institution Katowice City of Gardens and the City of Katowice.
